5th annual Pride Game Jam is coming!

Pride Game Jam is a 3-day game development marathon that celebrates LGBTQIA+ people by creating a safe space where participants can create art, music, and, of course, games, by which they can freely express their gender, sexual, and romantic experiences. The event is going to happen for the 5th time this year! The well-awaited jam will take place in Pelitalo Sture (Konepajankuja 3, Helsinki), during the Pride weekend 28.6-30.6.2024.

The event is hybrid, meaning that jammers can join us in-person in Helsinki, as well as through Discord from anywhere else in the world.

The Opening Ceremony and theme announcement will be streamed on Discord server. We invited really amazing people to have talks, and we booked a Finnish Game Jam block in the Pride parade!

Follow our social media LinkedInFacebook, and Instagram for all jams announcements. You can also follow us through our official hashtags, #PrideGameJamHKI24 and #FGJ. Use these when posting about the event!

Registration to the jam: Eventbrite

Registration to the FGJ parade block (you don’t have to participate in Pride Jam to join): Google registration form

And finally, huge thank you to the city of Helsinki and Pelitalo Sture, and our sponsors Metacore and Next Games!

What is a game jam?

A game jam brings together all types of game developers, amateurs, professionals, and students to innovate new games in a single weekend or a similarly short time span. Typically participants work in small teams, racing to produce as complete a game as possible with limited time and resources, but unlimited creativity.

What is a Global Game Jam?

Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event taking place worldwide every January. In 2017, jammers in 700 locations in 95 countries created over 7000 games.

What is Finnish Game Jam and #FGJ23?

Finnish Game Jam ry (FGJ) is a registered association founded to organize game jam events in Finland. Our main event is an annual game development event and a part of the worldwide Global Game Jam (GGJ). This year’s event is called #FGJ23, and comprises several game jam locations organized all around Finland. In #FGJ17, we had 22 locations, 888 jammers and 222 games created in one weekend!

Junior Game Jam

The first Junior Game Jam is organized on 18-20 of October 2013. Junior Game Jam is aimed at 13-17 year old people who are interested in game development. During the event, jammers create a game in small groups during one weekend. In addition to game making, the program includes workshops and visiting the Alternative Party. Signing up to the event has ended. Read more from here (only in Finnish).

ASM FGJ ’13

The first Assembly game jam pilot project was a success: about 30 people jammed during the event, and 6 games were finished. Big thanks to all participants!

This was the first time that a game jam was arranged as part of the Assembly program, but it won’t be the last: plans are already in motion to take the pilot and make it into an annual tradition.

Download the games from Assembly news and check out some photos from here.

It’s official: We are a registered association!

Next year, Finnish Game Jam will be organized for the fifth time. During these years we have learned a lot, grown quite a bit, and realized that we have something special going on in here. We started from three cities with about 100 participants – in 2013 there was 12 locations and over 500 jammers. We have grown to be the largest game development event in Finland.

We have had committed volunteers making this possible, and it was time to take the step to create an official association around the event. Thus now Finnish Game Jam is not just the event. Finnish Game Jam ry is a registered association, whose main purpose is to coordinate and organize the Finnish Game Jam event and to support the game jamming activity in Finland.
